What’s Happening in Music:

All classes have been focusing on the concept of rhythm for the month of September. The 5thgrade is already working hard on this year’s musical “The Best Little Theater in Town”. Choir rehearsals have also started on Friday mornings for 4th and 5th graders.

Things to Do:

CroatiaFest – Oct 19th-20th at the Seattle Center

Diwali:Lights of India – Oct 26th at the Seattle Center

Question of the Month:

Who are the composers of the musical: Cinderella

Answer: Rodgers and Hammerstein

Composer Focus:

Duke Ellington – Was an American composer, pianist, and leader of a jazz orchestra which he led from 1923 until his death. While he is widely considered to be a pivotal figure in the history of Jazz, Ellington embraced the phrase “beyond category” and referred to his music as part of the more general category of American Music.

Music Advocacy:

60% of parents whose children sing in choirs today say their child's ability to read others' emotions or manage their own has improved since their child joined a choir.
